Black Black Eyed Eyed Susan Susan Brings Brings Out Out Eight; Eight; Mr. Mr. Jr. Jr. Governors Governors Cap Cap Highweight Highweight Toluene Gets Call For Pimlico Event Recent Elmendorf Purchase Vies With Miss Cloudy and San Ju Lee at 1 1-16 Miles By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 12.— The Black Eyed Susan Stakes, endowed with 0,000 by the Maryland Jockey Club, but subscribed with little more than indifference by handlers of our prominent three-year-olds fillies, has attracted only eight mediocre members of the division to do battle at 1 1-16 miles in the 35th edition. With a field of this size, the Susan will gross 3,00, with the owner of the winner receiving 5,090, plus 50 in nominating and starting fees. Heading the group is Toluene, a daughter of Hill Prince — Dynamite n., who was recently sold to Elmendorf by Virginian Harold H. Polk. It was for the latter that Toluene won last falls Marguerite over -the local track, giving her the distinction of being the lone stakes winner in tomorrows field. Won Marguerite Last Fall Others entered in the Black Eyed Susan are Audrey Davies Miss Cloudy, Milton Shagrins San Ju Lee, Michael Donofrios Cervina, Max Zipkins Time to Sell, L. L. Hollandsworths Regal Step, Gregory Peters Geechee Lou and Bairet C. Britting-hams Countercheck. As mentioned previously, Toluene won the Marguerite here last fall, whipping Merry Hill, among others. She was in Florida during the winter but raced only three times, finishing three lengths behind Lev-elix in the Jasmine and unplaced in two subsequent allowance races. She has been freshened since that time and has trained well over the Pimlico track. Karl Korte. her Marguerite rider, gets the call in the Susan. Miss Cloudy beat Toluene slightly more than a length while finishing second in the Jasmine during the winter but is without a victory in a half-dozen starts this year. She earned a starting position in the midweek stake with a good fourth behind High Bid at Jamaica about two weeks back. Larry Adams will be astride Miss Cloudy. Time to Sell has placed in the Miss Maryland and Prince Georges, both at 6 furlongs. Until she was unplaced the other day, the Zipkin filly hadnt been worse than third in five starts this term. Whether or nofrshe can carry her speed for 1 1-6 miles remains a question which she has never been asked. Nick Shuk handles Time to Sell in the Black Eyed Susan. San Ju Lee, after having been second at the Susan distance during the Gulfstream meeting, was shipped here and won a sprint offering in her lone appearance. She could prove quite formidable and will be ridden by Chris Rogers.
