Helioscope, High Gun Rated Even Given 133 Pounds In Carter Handicap Helis Colt Takes Up Five MoreThan in SuburbanWhen . He Beat Rival Head Margin AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 27. To the surprise of some, but by no means all, observers, racing secretary Frank E. "Jimmy" Kilgore assigned equal highweight of 133 pounds to King Ranchs High Gun and William Helis, Jr.s Helioscope in the 0,-000-added Carter Handicap, to be renewed at seven furlongs on July 4. Helioscope beat High Gun a desperate head in the Suburban at a mile and a quarter when the King Ranch horse had the same 133 pounds, but Helioscope carried five pounds less. It was anticipated in some quarters that Kilroe would again ask High Gun to concede two or three pounds to his rival, but the handicapper evidently took the I shorter distance, which may favor the brilliant Helioscope, who has been setting j track records on the fast New Jersey tracks before and since his Suburban triumph. - The ill-fated White Skies won last years Carter under 133 pounds, while Tom Fool won it under 135 the year before, equalling the track record of 1:22, set by his stable-mate Northern Star under 115 in the 1952 edition of the Carter. Social Outcast Pegged at 123 From the two sons of Heliopolis, the Carter weights dip sharply to 123 pounds on Alfred G. Vanderbilts Social Outcast, who is a doubtful prospect. Maine Chance Farms Jet Action is a possibility with 119, two more than has been given Walter M. Jeffords Tahiti. . Joe W. Browns Bobby Brocato is a likely starter under 116 pounds, while Ethel D. Jacobs Joe Jones is "a possibility at 115. Clearwater Stables Dark Peter, who may come up from New Jersey, is in with 113, while High Tide Stables Fabulist, who stopped badly in Saturdays Edgemere Handicap, drops seven pounds to carry 112, the same impost given Mrs. Jacobs Paper Tiger and Woodley Lane Farms Red Hannigan. Paper Tiger and Red Hannigan finished first and third in the Edgemere, while the latter won the Roseben at the Carter distance. Greentree Stable, which won two of the last three runnings of the Carter, is represented by the three-year-old Gold Box, 111, who won the Shevlin at the same distance last out.
