t WOODBINE TURF NOTES $ ® J. Burks arrived at Long Branch with four horses shipping in from Ohio. Word was received here that a division of the J. Marsch string was leaving Aurora today. This will be the first time that Mr. Marsch has campaigned in Canada. Patrons had an opportunity of seeing the Waite starting gate in action when Marshall Cassidy used this device to send the fields away. J. B. Brown, newly appointed secretary at Blue Bonnets, has sent out condition books for the forthcoming meeting at that place. W. Zakoor will distribute the books among horsemen here and asks that those desiring stalls send their applications in as early as possible. Jockey Eddie Barnes has taken out a license and will be seen in silks riding as a free lance. Kennedy Hill will be stationed at Thorn-cliffe Park each morning until 10 oclock to receive entries from horsemen stabled at that Hilltop course. Jockey Nick Wall will do the lightweight riding for the Seagram Stable. Jockey Paul McGinnis made his first ap- pearance as a steeplechase rider when he was seen astride Dragon de Vertu in the second race today. The Canadian Racing Associations have adopted the open claiming rule on the tracks under its jurisdiction. J. D. Atkins and his trainer, L. O. Lee, checked in from Tanforan. Charles Irby also came along. Jockey W. Cleverley has severed his connections with the stable of W. H Wright ind will perform as a freelance during the remainder of the meeting. The latest addition to the local riding colony is jockey F. J. Baker, who came on from New York. W. Levy is distributing the condition books for the forthcoming meeting at Con-naught Park.
