ARLINGTON STAKES ARRAY Nominations for 21 Minor Events and Supplementary Entries for Major Offerings Due June 1. Nominations from the leading stables of America are being received for the twenty-one minor stakes to be offered during the thirty-day meeting of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, president Otto W. Lehmann said today as he called attention to the closing of the events on June 1. With the countrys best horses entered in these as â– well as the nine major attractions, Mr. Lehmann added, Arlington is assured of a high class feature each day. Headed by the ,000 added Arlington Inaugural Handicap, there are twenty of ,500 each, of which eight are for two-year-olds, five for three-year-olds, and eight for three-year-olds and older horses. Distances of these events range from five and one-half furlongs for the juveniles to a mile and one-half for the older performers. In all, the thirty stakes on the Arlington program will aggregate 52,000 in added money, and this sum will be practically doubled by the entrance and starting fees, Mr. Lehmann pointed out in mentioning the probability that Arlington Park would lead all other race courses this season in total distribution to horsemen. Owners of several horses that have unexpectedly developed into prominence since the regular closing on March 15 of seven of the nine major events are expected to take advantage of the supplementary closing June 1 of these races, Mr. Lehmann said, thereby insuring the best possible fields. The events are the Classic, Stars and Stripes, Arlington and Arlington Matron Handicaps, Arlington Gold Cup, Arlington Oaks and Hyde Park Stakes. -
