PARTIES, unable to keep pace early, moved up resolutely in the final quarter. SHOO, close to the winner most of the way, tired in the last eighth. LE FLORE could not reach the leaders. THE HEATHEN took a long lead in the first quarter, was rated along under restraint and was never menaced. ERVAST, showing improvement, shook off VACILLATE, but was unable to menace the winner. POLLY CEE worked her way up and, going to the inside on the stretch turn, overtook the tiring VACILLATE in the last sixteenth. The latter was unable to reach the leader. NEWTON BELLE closed a gap. STAR FIRE, reserved off the early pace, was blocked nearing the five-eighths post when his rider attempted to move up on the inside, was taken to the outside, moved up fast, wore down the leaders after leaving the back stretch and drew out to win with speed in reserve. FLYING CADET forced the early pace, took command when BURNING UP began tiring, but was unable to keep pace in the last quarter mile. OLD DEPOT trailed far back early, but closed with a rush. ARROWSWIFT, closest in attendance of the pace, could not threaten the winner and weakened right at the end. SOURCE CIRCLE, outrun early, closed with a belated rush. HONEYSWEET showed a good effort.
