1 LOUISVILLE TURF NOTES s W. "Tiny" Scofield, who formerly trained for J. J. Coughlin and other well known owners, has been selected to condition and race the horses of Mesdames I. and E. Stern, of Chicago. The horses are at Douglas Park and included in the stable are the three-year-olds Dark Laughter, Miss Kitty and Cherry Cider and the four-year-old Risibility. All of the horses were sired by Dark Jest and with only one exception have had no racing experience. The mesdames Stern are newcomers to the owners ranks. W. Stock, who arrived here several days ago with F. H. Carpenters Capitalist and Gold Standard, has taken up Chifally and Philscourt to train for the same owner. The former two were shipped here from Oak-lawn Park. M. N. Porters stable, a belated arrival from New Orleans and also quartered at Douglas Park, includes Boy Bunting, Lan-quo, Lady Lorraine, Enola, San Lorenzo, Miss Esther, Big Charley, Golden Ariel and Buddy Miller. The latter two are two-year-olds. Hit and Run, Blue Hour and Pep Talk made up the small division of the A. B. Le-tellier stable shipped here direct from New Orleans. Others to be added will come from winter quarters in Tennessee. Jockey Mark Garner motored down from his home in Covington, Ky., Tuesday morning and with his brother-in-law and friends visited the two local tracks. While at Douglas Park he conferred with trainer E. T. Miller, who has a division of the Chappel Brothers stable there. At the present time Miller is training seven for his Rockford, 111., employer and three of them are homebred two-year-olds. They are Yuldurum, chestnut colt by Wacker Drive Peggy M.; Tetrashera, a gray colt by Sherab and Chrysos, and Shawka, a gray daughter of Sherab and Tease. The older horses are Monks Gold, Chrostle, Wanoah and Oriental Boot. Others will be added to the stable within a few weeks. The horses Fred Cropper shipped here from Hot Springs were My Blaze, First Try, Virnock, Ramrod and Jaybird. Several owners are represented in the stable. "Alicky" Harris, who has Wavy Sea and Athanette under preparation at Douglas Park, will introduce another new rider during the coming season in Maurice Bergh, a Louisville boy. Bergh is sixteen and now weighs eighty-nine pounds. Harris considers him an excellent prospect. Along with training six for H. G. Shoemaker, B. F. Arnold is in charge of Crimson and Battling Girl, owned by Mrs. McKinney. sister of the late George Henze. Arnold is also training the two-year-old Clarke for an undisclosed patron. The Shoemaker horses are Wise Bessa, Open Hearth, Gamaliel, Buffoonery, Twilight Girl and Upon. The stable is quartered at Douglas Park, and jockey W. Farrell is identified with it. Former jockey Howard Long, a recent arrival at Douglas Park from Florida, is training Blackbirder, Royal Vixen and Chimney Top. A unit of the stable of F. M. Alger, Jr., now in training at Douglas Park, where it arrived from Florida in charge of trainer A. L. Copeland several days ago, consists of Polar Flight, White Ginger, Neds Affinity and Matapeake. Jockey Lee Hardy accompanied the stable here from Florida. William Westerf ield checked in at Douglas Park Monday from Latonia with six horses owned by A. Simone. They are Wild Gus, Dora May, Wise Dora and the two-year-olds Busy Lutrecia, Carl S. and Queen Irene. The latter is a daughter of Hildur and Zadora May, while Busy Lutrecia, also a filly, is by Busy American Sherry, and Carl S. is a colt by Republic, from Delco 1 Light.
