ANOTHER MILKY WAY VICTORY Sir Gawaine Joins List of Winners for Mrs. Mars. Son of Sir Gallahad III. Takes John Booth Purse at Arlington Downs Weather Good for the Sport. ARLINGTON, Tex., April 14. Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Milky Way Farms Stable, which has furnished the winners of a greater majority of the feature offerings of the Texas Jockey Club during its Arlington Downs spring meeting, added another purse to its score when Sir Gawaine triumphed in hollow fashion over five other, three-year-olds which met over one mile and seventy yards in the John Booth Purse, fifth and main attraction this afternoon. The son of Sir Gallahad in., which carried equal top weight of 114 pounds with Irish Ford and Wardell Ormont, had the services of Alfred Robertson and made every post a winning one, to lead Three Ds Irish Ford, its chief reliance for Texas and Kentucky Derby honors, by seven lengths at the end. There was quite a battle between J. J. Coughlins Hazel Eye, Wardell Ormont and Tap Dancer for minor honors, with Hazel Eye emerging with a nose advantage and Wardell Ormont beating Tap Dancer by a head for fourth laurels. Gay Nellie, which completed the field, was a distant trailer at the end. It was the first triumph of the year for Sir Gawaine and the second of the afternoon for Robertson. The winner ran the distance in 1:42, within four-fifths of a second of the record held by The Fighter and Sangreal, his. stablemates. The winner took command at once and sprinted into an eighth lengths lead during the back stretch run. Gay Nellie was in closest pursuit, but Irish Ford moved up rapidly shortly afterward and Robertson was forced to rouse the winner entering the stretch. Responding in fine style after his breather, Sir Gawaine steadily increased his advantage, to be in hand at the end. Some fifteen lengths separated Irish Ford and Hazel Eye. Summerlike weather again prevailed for the sport, which was decided before another large crowd and over a. fast track. Favorites and outsiders battled for leading honors all during the afternoon, Sir Gawaine being the second winning favorite. Another Insco offspring entered the winners ranks when T. C. Wordens Quindaro was much the best of ten other maiden two-year-olds that met at four furlongs for the introductory dash. Lyra, which was neglected in the wagering, was second, and That Wins, making her first start under the Three Ds colors, third. Although fast to begin, Quindaro was shuffled back at the far turn when That Wins drove to the front. Entering the stretch Buddy Haas, drove the winner to the outside of his rivals and, overtaking the leaders rapidly, finished three and a half lengths before Lyra, which got up to head That Wins for second. The latter, although pinched back at the stretch turn, finished strong to head the tiring Hearty for minor honors. Colonels Miss gave way rapidly after forcing the pace to the stretch, and Albert Beck, which reached the lead approaching the final furlong, quit. The second race, fashioned for Texas-owned platers and which attracted a field of twelve, was marred when the heavily supported The Jurist refused to break with his field and only made up ground during the final three furlongs of the Waggoner course sprint. Winning honors went to W. B. Rays Whiskarita, with Whizz James second and Hip Boots third. Hip Boots and Whizz James dominated the pace to the last stages, where the winner wrested the lead from Whizz James to lead him by a half length at the end. The Jurist finished in fifth place. With the exception of Explorer, which quit badly in the drive, the others were never factors. Dark Seeker, consistent daughter of Trau-mer, which races for F. Scoville, started her 1936 campaign in fine fashion when she was an easy and. surprise winner of the third race, also over the Waggoner course. All Devil was second and Justa Hymn, a field horse, was third. A. Robertson had the winner in close pursuit of the speedy and heavily backed Linden Tree during the run to the stretch and when he called upon her she forged to the front to be four and a half lengths before All Devil at the end. Working his way forward on the outside, All Devil caught the leaders in fine style to be a neck before Justa Hymn, which led John Bane by a length at the end. After relinquishing the lead, Linden Tree quit rapidly and Chicasha was done after three-eighths. Brigade B., three-year-old daughter of Crack Brigade, which races for A. C. Francis, turned back a field of more seasoned performers and provided a surprise by winning the fourth race. She reached the finish two lengths before Marchstep, with Parma Violet carrying off minor honors. Eleven mediocre platers were under colors, with Night Brigade and Marchstep leading the field to the final sixteenth, where the winner took command to be rapidly increasing her advantage at the end. Zorana, strong second choice to Marchstep, tired after improving her posi-. tion, and pulled up lame. After benefitting from a saving of ground Fayette Prince was blocked approaching the final furlong and gave way rapidly thereafter.
