NARRAGANSETT PARK NOTES g $ Stakes for the spring meeting at Narra-gansett Park, which commences on Saturday, May 2, closed Tuesday. Ten stakes totaling 3,000 will be offered during the nineteen days of the meeting. The initial subscription to the important Narragansett Special, scheduled for decision on September 16 during the summer meeting, also closed Tuesday. Racing secretary Pat Hor-gan was at the Jamaica race track, Tuesday, accepting nominations. Harry I. Day, inventor and director of the electric eye, arrived at Narragansett Park, ready to swing into action. With Day were his crew of experts who operated the old Model F. eye at Santa Anita during the winter. The tower structure is complete and as soon as the delicate photographic and timing apparatus is installed and adjusted the press will be invited to witness the first tests. Running into the toughest of luck last season, including an automobile accident which almost cost his wifes life, Herbert H. Brown, "Brownie" to his host of New England friends, left Narragansett Park last fall with but five horses and a depleted bank roll. During the winter at Florida the well liked New Jersey boy hit his stride in earnest, and he showed up at Narragansett with ten good money earners, some ready cash and a broad smile. With "Brownie" was his new apprentice, M. Greer, who showed very well in Florida, and in his string were Happy Helen, Swamp Angel, Zulu Lad, Blondella, Playful Martha, Bickering, Judge Judy, Cumberland, Gra-marye and Col. Bixer. Opening day is drawing near at Narragansett, and Walter E. OHara moved his offices out to the race track Tuesday. That move is not usually made until two days before opening date. Another arrival from Florida was trainer Lew Williams with a dozen horses in tow, the property of Mrs. F. Williams, Mrs. W. Sorrentino, Frank Romano and J. Rickards. The campaigners include General A., Goldfin, Diverting, Glistening, Kissinbug, Tuffy G., Salut DAmour, Gunshot, College Boy, Flag Cadet, Thundertone and Scotch Soldier.
