PLUCKY JACK lacked speed for the first quarter but moved up steadily when straightened out in the back stretch and, heading CALAVERAS in the stretch, was not extended in the last sixteenth. CALAVERAS raced to the front at once to set a good pace and continued gamely after being headed to hold LLOYD PAN. The latter raced up strongly in the back stretch, saved ground approaching the stretch turn and, coming to the outside of CALAVERAS in the stretch, was going well at the finish. NATALIE ALICE made up some ground. MAKE AND BREAK tired in the stretch. ORRA was forced wide on the first turn and was never dangerous. Scratched 244795Torolee, 114; 24855Skipton, 104. ZEVAR, well rated in the early running, was sent forward steadily in the back stretch to reach a contending position and, coming very fast through the stretch, caught SQUEEZER in the last sixteenth to win handily. SAN RAMON was saved close up in the early stages and came strongly in the stretch to finish fast and gamely. SQUEEZER was taken sharply off stride while his rider was grabbing for a new hold soon after the start and dropped far out of it, then rushed around the outside after leaving the back stretch to take command in the stretch and opened up a good lead, but was used up from his early efforts and had little left. HIS WAY, close up in the early running, loomed up dangerously rounding the stretch turn, but tired in the last eighth. TORO MAK was never a serious threat. MIDSHIPMAN lacked speed and, although saving ground all the way, was never a contender. WAR LETTER acted badly at the post and broke poorly from the gate, was rushed around on the outside and to the front in the first quarter and had nothing left in the final eighth. CENTER LANE, always close to the pace, came strongly on the outside of BLACKMAIL in the stretch to catch the latter nearing the end and won handily. BLACKMAIL got through on the inside of VELOCITER rounding the first turn to take a good lead and, saving ground, stood a hard stretch drive gamely, but was not good enough and barely lasted to hold second place. BYE LO raced wide while making his move, but finished very fast and would have been easily second in a few more strides. UNCLE FRED closed ground in the last quarter. VELOCITER dropped back when the real racing began. AMERICAN EMBLEM saved ground approaching the stretch turn to reach a contending position, but tired in the run home. WENT TO POST 5:18. AT POST minute. Start good and slow for all but Arson. Won handily; second and third driving. AZUCAR, always within striking distance of the leaders, came strongly when urged in the final quarter and, catching DARK WINTER nearing the end, won going away with speed in reserve. DARK, WINTER, also well rated, moved up fast after leaving the back stretch to head BAHAMAS in the stretch and raced strongly to the end, but lacked the class to hold his stable companion. JOVIUS was permitted to drop far out of it in the first half mile and raced wide while making his move, but closed fast and gamely and showed a good effort. BAHAMAS raced NUBS into defeat while making the pace and was in rather close quarters on the inside of DARK WINTER after being passed by the latter. MICKEYS MAN showed good speed and saved ground where possible, but was tiring when in close quarters in the stretch. NUBS raced to the middle of the track rounding the first turn and was done after going three-quarters. ARSON leaped into the air at the start and, off poorly, had little chance. COLDWATER seemed outclassed. Scratched 25010 Velociter, 95. Overweight Bahamas, 1 pound; Mickeys Man, 1; Nubs, 1. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-2 MILES. Afridi, Dec 11, 19352:336113. BALLYHOO, well ridden, followed the pace of BATTLING KNIGHT closely until ready to make hii move, then raced to the front to open up a good lead, but tired a trifle near the end and was under urging. BATTLING KNIGHT showed speed in making the pace under slight restraint, continued well after beine. headed and was going gamely at the finish. MELODY LANE was in close quarters several times while attempting to save ground, came to the outside approaching the stretch turn and was carried wide on the turn, but continued gamely to the finish.
