1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES J : and With eight two-year-olds and four older horses, the latter group headed by the Kentucky Derby candidate, Silas, the stable of Mrs. Bessie Franzheim, trained by A. C. Dettwiler, promises to prove a strong bidder for some of the racing honors during the Churchill Downs meeting, opening one week from Saturday. The stables Derby horse has been training satisfactorily and, barring mishaps or failure to qualify in public tests for the race, will be in the lineup of contestants for that 0,000 prize. His older stablemates are Perdition, Old Deal and Compensatory, the latter eligible for the ,000 added Clark Handicap to be renewed on the opening day of the Downs season. Two-year-olds in the Franzheim establishment are products of the Simms Xalapa Farm and included among them are several highly regarded beginners. With names, color, sex, sires and dams, they are: Gay Troubadour, brown colt by Leonardo II. Sun Bun; Grosjean, black colt by Eternal Court Boulion; Step Quick, bay filly by Etex-nal Bachelors Choice; Lady Dedlock, black filly by Eternal Ann Earn; Big Bud, brown or black colt by Bright Knight Loma Linda; Sonsy Boy, brown colt by Eternal Bourlon Reel; Cane Ridge, brown colt by Crucifixion Tara II.; Gaelic, bay colt by Leonardo II. Way of an Eagle. Step Quick is a half sister to Master Charlie, Big Bud a full brother to Stavka and Lady Dedlock a half sister to Doran. Jockey Willie Garner is with the stable. The horses J. T. Weaver, veteran Kentucky turfman, wintered at Churchill Downs are coming up to the new season in good style and he hopes to campaign some, if not all of them, here, following which the stable moves on to Latonia. For William E. Smith, prominent Louisville sportsman, Weaver is training Like-, wise, Otherwise, Belgian Boy, High Girl, Gray Friar and the two-year-olds Harry Olive, a chestnut colt by Harry Baker Olivia, and Winning Maid, a black daughter of High Score and Belgian Maid.
