BAY MEAD0WS TURF NOTES j Indian Broom, which will carry the hopes of the West in the Kentucky Derby on May 2, had his final breeze over the Tanforan track Saturday. He showed the same dazzling speed that enabled him to establish a recent worlds record in going three-eighths in :34. Indian Broom will be loaded Sunday night for his long trip to Kentucky. Jockey George Burns, who will have the mount on Indian Broom, will leave for Louisville, Sunday, in company with trainer Darrell Cannon. Maj. Austin C. Taylor, owner of Indian Broom, will join trainer and jockey in the Kentucky metropolis the latter, part of the month. Lonnie Copenhaver has traded the three-year-old maiden Crossbeck for French Honey. The exchange was made with Cochrane and Turk. Copenhaver, incidentally, has perhaps the largest string in training at Bay Meadows. He has thirty-one head under his direction, the stable being split in two divisions one at Bay Meadows, the other at Tanforan. A. P. Levy on Thursday sold Strait Jacket to E. C. Koehler at private terms. Strait Jacket was formerly owned by Joe E. Brown. The racer will be fired and turned out. Tonta, two-year-old handicap winner, is pointing for the ,500 California Breeders Handicap May 2. The fast California-bred daughter of Bon Homme Covering worked three-eighths in :38 Thursday morning. Jockey Bill Robertson, who incurred a broken foot in an accident at the post last fall at Bay Meadows, plans to return to the saddle next week. Trainer J. P. Headley, acting for H. May-nard Dickinson, Thursday sold Mystic Moon and Binjer to L. Horowitz at private terms. Binjer is a two-year-old Busy American colt which has not yet faced the barrier. Collector Al, owned by George A. Marshall, bowed a tendon in a workout Thursday morning and will be on the shelf for some time. Horsemen were advised Thursday that condition books for the British Columbia racing season, as well as the conditions for the two new ,000 stakes, would be sent to Bay Meadows within a few days. Two ,000 stakes were recently announced that would not conflict with the 0,000 Longacres Mile and the ,000 Seattle Handicap at Longacres.
