HAVRE DE GRACE NOTES I o A. J. Abel left for New York to visit his mother, who was injured in an automobile accident. Abel will return to Havre de Grace Monday. Arrangements have been completed by Robert E. .Potts, trainer of Grand Slam, to send the colt to Louisville, Ky., on Wednesday, where he will receive his final preparation for the Kentucky Derby. From reliable sources it was learned that Earl Walden, Baltimore, Md., patron, has been approved by the West Virginia Racing Commission to act as mutuel manager during the thirty-one day summer meeting to be staged at Charles Town, W. Va. Among the notables attending the races in the clubhouse enclosure at Havre de Grace, Saturday, were: Jock Whitney, who just returned from Europe; John F. Curry of New York, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Jeffords, Frank Brown, Mrs. H. Parr, Mrs. C. V. Whitney, Mrs. Sidney Holloway, Samuel D. Riddle, Mrs. Edward Burke, Mr. and Mrs. Selby Burch, CapL P. M. Walker, Harry Parr IH., Preston M. Burch, P. A. Markey, E. B. Bohn, Clarence E. Lehr and P. A. B. Widener. N. F. Smith of New England, who came down in search of racing material at the vendue of the Holly Beach Farm, held before the races, made bids on seven different youngsters in the auction, but failed to acquire any of the two-year-olds that were offered. They were sold for larger prices than he anticipated.
