NO CHANCE FOR IRA HANFORD BALTIMORE, Md., May 14.— Frank J. Bryan, one of the Pimlico stewards, stated today that the Maryland rules governing suspensions of jockeys do not permit any exceptions as to stake engagements, even though the suspension may have been incurred in a state where rules allow the offender to fulfill a stake engagement for a contract employer or for an owner under a prior agreement. Therefore, Ira Hanford will net be permitted to ride Bold Venture in the Preakness. The lad was suspended for fifteen days for rough tactics in the Kentucky Derby. The Pimlico stewards had the same case before them several years ago when Don Meade was suspended sixty days for rough riding in winning the Kentucky Derby with Brokers Tip.
