MUCH ACTIVITY AT LATONIA Entries for Seven Stakes Compiled, and, With 300 Horses on Grounds, Everything Is Ready. LATONIA, Ky., May 14.— With stables arriving in increased numbers and officials of the track pushing preparations for the opening of the season, the local Latonia course of the Latonia Jockey Club now presents close to mid-season activity. Compilation of nominations for the seven stakes to be run during the meeting, which opens Saturday, May 23, and will embrace thirty-seven days, closing Saturday, July 4, has been completed and entries for sveral of the features made public. The Latonia Derby, richest of the stakes, received thirty six nominations and is assured a strong and representative field. It jwill have no less than 5,000 added and should Bold Venture, winner of the Kentucky Derby, capture it, the Latonia Jockey Club will add 0,000. In addition to the Kentucky Derby victor, the Latonia prize attracted Granville, Bow and Arrow, Coldstream, Count Morse, Holl Image, Erin Torch, Silas, Brush Hook, Memory Book, Hollyrood, Split Second, The Fighter, Sangreal, He Did, Rushaway, Song-maker, Tatterdemalion and Dnieper, among others. I The Quickstep Handicap, Clipsetta Stakes, Enquirer Handicap, Cincinnati Trophy, Latonia Oaks and Independence Handicap, complete Latonias roster of stakes. With more than 300 horses on the grounds registering of stables will start next Tuesday when the offices of racing secretary William H. Shelley are to open. Judge Charles F. Price, presiding steward in charge of racing, is also expected from Louisville Tuesday, and starter William Hamilton plans to inaugurate schooling here the same day. ♦
