Max Marmelstein, Cleveland sportsman, 1 returned to his home after a visit of a few I days here as the guest of Eddie Seremba, who is training Ivy Maxwell and Chana for Marmelstein. G. W. Ogle was an arrival and lost no time making Infidox eligible for the 2,000 added , Illinois Derby, major stake fixture of the J Fox Valley Jockey Clubs nineteen-day meet- : ing, which will be decided May 22 at the , Aurora course. The feature race on Saturdays program at Aurora will be named in honor of C. Way-land Brooks, Republican gubernatorial can- | didate in Illinois. He will be a spectator on [ the occasion, according to the track management. Acting for Mrs. D. Christian, D. Christian purchased Captain Logan and Beginners Bait and took over The Break to train for A. McMaster. Jockey Willie Lang filed application with the Illinois Racing Commission, but when he returns to the saddle he will be minus the apprentice allowance. His apprenticeship expired May 8. Word was received here that starter George "Buddy Wingfield, who will hold down this post during the Hawthorne meeting, which starts May 23, is due to arrive here Friday. His crew of assistants have been here for the past few days. The ownership of Respect, Liberty Oak, Commandman, Hollywreath and Guess has been transferred from N. A. Bender to I. Bender. Al Gaal will continue as trainer for the stable. Facilities for removal of the starting gate from the track have been completed and mile races will be staged during the Ak-Sar- Ben meeting, according to racing secretary Bury, who has been here for several days in the interests of the Omaha track. A run- way has been constructed to take care of this feature. R. T. "Dick" Watts filed a contract with the Illinois Racing Commission on Paul Ryan, sixteen-year-old apprentice, who hails from Johnstown, Pa. Ryan is scheduled to make his saddle debut during the Illinois racing season. Patrol judges on all Illinois tracks will be required to file a written report with the racing Commission after each race. Blanks for the purpose have been prepared. •
