RESPESS COLORS SCORE Gorgeous Lady Finishes Neck Before Persistent Sky o Blue. Close and Thrilling Sport Witnessed by Latonia Fans Large Crowd and Good Weather. LATONIA, Ky., May 29. Close and thrilling sport was furnished at the Latonia course this afternoon. The Forest Hills Purse, an allowance event for three-year-olds and fifth on the card, was the most attractive race offered. J. B. Respess Gorgeous Lady came from behind to gain a neck decision over Sky o Blue in a driving finish to account for the feature. Kabo took down third money. Strongly ridden by jockey H. Gower, the brown filly came through with a sterling effort to be adjudged the winner by a safe margin. Unable to keep up with the speedsters during the early stages, Gorgeous Lady worked her way up on the inside and was within striking distance of the leaders when the field headed around the stretch turn. Diligently applying whip and boot to Gorgeous Lady, Gower had the filly catching the leaders one-by-one, but did not succeed in overtaking Sky o Blue until -the last sixteenth was reached. Sky o Blue set the pace virtually from the start, but was unequal to the task of withstanding the bid of Gorgeous Lady during the stretch drive. Ten started in the headline contest, with the winner rewarding with odds of .80 for straight. Excellent weather prevailed, and one of the largest crowds of the week was in evidence at the Milldale course. G. V. Barnes Wegoway, one of the less favored of the ten starters in the opening race, proved much the best in that mile and Continued on third page. Happy Rhinock finished second, six lengths behind the winner; while third "money was garnered by Cloverport. A close finish resulted in the five furlongs dash for two-year-olds, second on the card, with Ada W. gaining a hose decision over "GlOwset. Chestnut Queen finished in third place. There was a delay of several minutes as the placing judges called for a picture of the finish to assist them in naming the winner. Ada W. broke fast and was hard hustled throughout, but the chestnut filly barely lasted to ward off the challenge of Glowset. Form players connected in the third event at six furlongs, for three-year-olds and upward when F. P. Letelliers Billbo annexed the second race of his career. Morts Pal finished second two lengths to the rear of the winner. Jack W. held on for the show portion. Off to a good start Billbo was rated off the early pace set by Widow Star and, assuming command at the turn into the stretch, the chestnut colt swiftly drew into a comfortable lead. Sis Alice scored in the fourth, a six furlongs sprint, and made it a double for the Kentucky Turfman, G. V. Barnes. The brown filly got up in the last few strides to win by the margin of a nose over Jane Rachel, and for the second time during the afternoon the placing judges called for a photograph. Cherokee Red took third money.
