I HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES f $ : ; . . ; . s The distance of the ,000 Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap for two-year-olds and entries for which close tomorrow Saturday at midnight, will be five and one-half furlongs instead of six furlongs, as previously advertised, general manager C. W. Hay announced Friday. Many prospective nominators to the race preferred the shorter distance, it was said. As the foot he injured at Aurora is improving rapidly, G. Rukas hopes to resume riding within a week, possibly by Tuesday. Brokers Tip, winner of the Kentucky Derby two years ago and a recent addition to the western unit of Edward R. Bradleys stables, breezed a mile in 1:48 at Hawthorne Friday. Additions to the string D. E. Stewart has here for J. E. Widener and Mrs. P. A. B. Widener are expected from Peter Coynes main division of the stable now at Belmont Park.
