AZUCAR IS TEMPERAMENTAL Sulks 011 Least Provocation Such as Tight Bandage or Girth Will Run Only on Fast Track. DETROIT, Mich., May 29. Ed Lucas, who acts as foreman for "Lex" Wilson, trainer of Azucar and who has the horse directly in charge, told Detroit officials today that Azucar was the most temperamental horse he had ever been around in his career as a trainer. He stated that if a bandage was placed too tight on him, he will not extend himself at all, and that he personally, puts all of the bandages on the horse for his works and races. If a girth pinches him in any way he will pu.U up in his works and refuse to extend himself. When he won at Tanforan the past winter, a saliva test was ordered by the stewards, and the veterinary took him to a stall to get the specimen. The horse fought him off and ran him out of the stall, and it was necessary for Lucas himself to take the test for the association. F. M. Alger, Jr., who owns the horse, is especially anxious to have him start in the Memorial on Saturday. "Lex" Wilson, his trainer, and Mr. Alger both believe that if the horse wfll once get confidence in him-, self in running on the track, he would show a good performance, but he likes a pasteboard track and does not favor a heavy cushion, which is kept on the local course.
