IaGAWAM FAVORITES DO WELL Black Ribbon Outstays Master Time by Nose in Feature Shift in Riders Helps. AGAWAM, Mass., May 29. Black Ribbon carried the royal blue and gold colors of Mrs. H. L. Sauer to a nose victory over Master Time in the sixth race, which proved to be the best offering on the days card at Agawam Park. Sickle Hour, winner on the opening days card, was third, with Repeal taking fourth money. Ideal racing weather prevailed throughout the afternoon and there was a large crowd on hand to witness the sport. Racing throughout the afternoon was formful with the favorites and second choices winning the majority of the events. In the feature offering there was a little delay at the post, the entire field leaving as one when starter Ira Gregory sent them on their way. Black Ribbon was favored by a shift of riders, jockey J. Leyland being hoisted aboard, instead of the ineyperienced Kleinbard, who rode the colt in his initial start here. A few strides after the start Leyland had Black Ribbon in the lead, saving ground on the first turn. He opened up a clear lead of two lengths as they straightened out for the run down the back stretch. Rhodesia, installed the choice, was following next in line, with Master Time a length back of the former, while Repeal and Rollick led the others. As the far turn was reached Rhodesia attempted to bolt to the outside fence. Tinker, who had the mount, was forced to swing his whip repeatedly before his eyes in an attempt to hold him in, but found the task impossible. While this was happening Black Ribbon again stole away to a three-length lead, which was to stand him in good stead when the final drive took place. Master Time was the one that had the most trouble, jockey Smith being forced to take up sharply to avoid a bad jam, but when once he got his mount straightened away and set sail after the leader it was too late.
