CAMERA FOR LONG BRANCH Use of Photo Finish Purely Experimental, Officials State First in Use in Canada. TORONTO, Ont, May 29. The camera eye will be used to decide close finishes at Long Branch meeting, starting Wednesday, June 10, it was announced today by racing secretary Charles F. Henry, representing the Orpen-Hare Confederacy. Used at all the leading tracks in the United States, the "photo finish," as it will be called, will be employed for the first time at a Canadian track when it is introduced at Long Branch. It was stated, however, that the innovation is purely in the experimental stage, and improvements and changes may have to be made. However, much has already been accomplished toward perfecting the "photo finish," mainly due to the untiring efforts of Mr. Henry, in collaboration with Lou Turof-sky, well known sports photographer. The camera eye, of course, will only be necessary when there is a close finish. Then, when, the winning horse is in doubt, the judges will flash a sign with a question mark on it to the man who places the numbers on the result boards, indicating that, it will be necessary to wait fori a picture to determine the result.
