DETROIT DERBY PRELIMINARY Trial Handicap for Eligibles Is Chief Offering on Motor City Program This Afternoon. DETROIT, Mich., June 8 Five eligibles for Saturdays renewal of the 5,000 added Detroit Derby, will be under colors for tomorrows running of the Derby Trial Handicap. Detroit patrons will have their first view of A. G. Tarns Canadian-owned Rush-away, which won two Derbys at different tracks on consecutive days, and Dnieper. Others opposing the son of Haste, which is burdened with the top weight of 124 pounds, are Joe Roberts Tugboat Frank, B. Hernandez Flag Cadet, J. S. Rileys Jimmie Caban-iss, and Sir Jim James, a non-eligible, Dnieper will carry 118 pounds. , Rushaway has been given a short rest since his record-breaking feat, but last Friday he turned in a brilliant public trial, and this morning he was sent a handy half-mile. Mrs. P. A. B. Wideners Dnieper, which finished second to Rushaway in the Illinois Derby, and which was disqualified for foul, also has tested the local track, while Flag Cadet, Tugboat Frank and Jimmie Cabaniss have been under colors here. Tugboat Frank follows the leaders in line of weights under 107 pounds, and Flag Cadets package is 105, the same as that assigned Sir Jim James. Jimmie Cabaniss gets in under 104 pounds. The mile and seventy yards of the Derby Trial should be a fitting preparation for Saturdays feature, which will be run at one mile and three-sixteenths. Johnny Longden, who rode Rushaway in his three Derby triumphs, came from Rockingham Park to pilot the colt in tomorrows effort, while Dnieper will have the services of Earl Porter.
