PAGAN KING BEST IN CANADA Black Son of Osiris II. Eileen M. Demonstrates Right to Title of Champion of Dominion. TORONTO, Ont., June 8 Pagan King, ebony-coated son of Osiris II. and Eileen M., which performs for the Parkwood Stable, stamped himself as the best two-year-old of Canadian parentage shown this season when he turned in his second winning performance in three starts this year to administer defeat to five other juveniles in the Seagram Purse, an allowance affair over five furlongs that was third on the card and the principal attraction for the semi-final day of the spring meeting at Thorncliffe Park. With the field reduced to six starters from an overnight list of ten, the winner ruled a prohibitive favorite for the contest and his victory was accomplished in easy fashion when he led from the fall of the flag under the handling of C. McDonald to run the distance in 1:01. His triumph came at the expense of Aldwych, from the R. W. R. Cowie barn, which raced coupled with Auld Reekie, while third was the portion of H. R. Bains Worth Trying, when he easily defeated Festive Board, Goanwin and Auld Reekie. For the semi-final day of the spring meeting a crowd of average size turned out for the sport and with large fields predominating, picking winners was a difficult task, the major share of winners coming from unexpected quarters. Thex-e was little to the running of the main event, which was considered but a mild gallop for Pagan King. He took the lead immediately after the start and once clear never left the result in doubt. McDonald placed the colt in command in the opening furlong, then guiding his mount the shortest way over the distance, had him across the line winner by little more than his own length although a wider margin could have prevailed had his rider elected. Aldwych, which in his two previous starts was behind the Parkwood colt, saved second place by one length while Worth Trying was three lengths before Festive Board, which chased in pursuit of the winner in the first quarter mile. .
