INAUGURAL DAY AT AQUEDUCT Good Gamble Earns ,050 by Winning Feature Handicap. Clang and Good Harvest Closely Lapped at Finish King Saxon Among the Unplaced. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 8. Good Gamble, the daughter of Chance Play and Triangle, which races for Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, was an easy winner today of the Queens County Handicap, the opening feature of the Aqueduct meeting. This added ,050 to her earnings. There was another Vanderbilt starter sharing in the purse when the Metropolitan winner, Good Harvest, was third, being beaten only inches for second place by John F. Clark, Jr.s Clang. Thu finish for that division of the purse was determined by the camera, it was so close. Well back of these came C. H. Knebelkamps King Saxon, winner of the same race last year. There was another drop in temperature for the opening of the Queens County Jockey Club meeting, and there was another unusual chill in the air, but a big crowd was on hand and the sport furnished was excellent. In the running of the Queens County Handicap, King Saxon was at a decided disadvantage, when, after beginning with his company, he propped and as a result was far back of the others before he found his stride. Good Gamble went right to the front and Sammy Renick sent her over to the rail to save ground all the way. He had a nics hold on the filly as she showed the way and she set a pace that was followed by Vicaress and Clang. These three were soon out four lengths before the others and it was King Saxon that was soon in fourth place. King Saxon could get no closer, however, and when Vicaress went out badly turning into the long stretch it was to the advantage of Good Gamble. The Chance Play miss had made a close turn into the-stretch for Renick and he had her over the linewinner by two lengths. Right at the end Good Harvest came with a mighty rush, rbut he-was a stride short of catching Clang for that part of the purse. Clang had been in the thick of the contention all the way and his was a good race. King Saxon, even with the excuse of his unfortunate start, raced disappointingly, while Vicaress, after bearing out so badly in the stretch, quit and was eased up a bad last. Mrs. W. A. Bridges bargain filly, Goldey F., made her score nine out of ten when she was winner of the Sun Bonnet, a five f longs dash confined to the two-year-old fillies. Her only defeat was in her last previous start when C. V. Whitneys colt Black Look, with a big pull in the weights, took her 1 measure. In this return to winning form, the daughter of Tall Timber and Naharani scored over Sophia Tucker from the Orienta Stable with the Wheatley Stables Devils Pace finishings third. The margin of victory was a half length, but following the rule at Belmont Park, a photograph was called for by the placing judges. The hurdle race, over a mile and a half course, went to John Hay Whitneys Paper Moon, but right at the end C. Eagan, who had the mount, almost tossed off the victory when Gwladys Whitneys Collateral stole up on the outside unnoticed by Eagan. He woke up to the danger in time to ride his mount out and score by a Jength and a half. Third went to Clonard, from the Mill-river Stable and ridden by the amateur, P. D. Reid. There was one mishap in the running when the Greentree Stables Alaric unseated Collins two jumps from -the finish. Polywhisk, from the Southland Stable, beat a cheap band of maidens in the six and a half furlongs of the, fourth race. Samuel Harshanis Itsie Bitsie took second place and Capitol Hill, racing for Max Hirsch,. just beat Night Raven for third. Steady going old Crystal Prince won another race for J. B. Partridge when he scored in the sixth, for better class platers. The old fellow came .out of the running badly lame after haying readily beaten Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Jesting, arid third went to George D. Wideners Chicstraw.
