ROUGH PARTY IN FOREFRONT Takes Mondays Main Event at Aga-wam After Good Display of Speed and Gameness. AGAWAM, Mass.June 8. j. Y Christmas won his first purse of the present meeting when Rough Party lived up to her name and provided a rough party for the others in the Palmer, fifth and :f eature event of the eleventh day s card. Covering the five and one-half furlongs of the distance in the good time of 1:05, the chestnut, four-year-old daughte rof Strolling Player Celebration held on long enough to pass the placing judges a half length in front of Some Good, one that races in the interests of A. L. Aste. A length back of this pair came Screen to take third place for G. Laf les. Dark War, Mrs. C. Tumins starter, was fourth. Whipped to the front while racing on the outside, Rough Party soon raced Dark War into defeat, drawing clear by the time the furlong post was reached as Dark War dropped back. Manya challenged, but she also retired quickly. Then Some Good, which had been forced to race very wide rounding the turn, loomed up on the outside, traveling in a manner that for a time threatened to carry him right to the leader, but Phillips, sensing his danger, swung "to his whip smartly, keeping the Christmas mare at her task. In the drive that ensued to the wire Rough Party stuck it out to pass the final line a half length to the good, but the judges again called for the cameras aid, though it was later discovered it was only to aid them in the placing of the third and fourth horses, with Screen getting the nod to displace Dark War, which many thought was third. Ideal midsummer weather again greeted the fans. Though it was somewhat of an off-day, the attendance again showed a slight increase, while the handle in the "tote" machines held up to the usual standard.
