MANLY, under steadying restraint for five-eighths, moved up fast when urged, swung wide entering the stretch, came again in the last stages and was up in the final stride. NORTHCUTT, saved for a half mile, improved his position fast when called upon, took command nearing the final three-eighths, was unable to draw clear and tired near the end. LONESOME PINE worked his way forward on the outside and held on well. STORM ANGEL had no mishaps. BARRETTE tired after reaching contention. SKI was done after three-quarters. GANNONNIC was outrun. OPEN HEARTH, outrun for a half mile, responded fast thereafter, wore down the leaders in the final sixteenth and won drawing away. CARL B. worked his way forward steadily, forged to the front inside the final eighth, but failed to withstand the winner. BEGINNERS BAIT, hustled into the lead, gave way approaching the final quarter, came again in the stretch, but tired rapidly in the last eighth. MISS FIREFLY dropped back after a half mile, came again on the inside in the stretch, and finished well. ERECH, used up in reaching the lead, quit under pressure. DIZZY B. showed nothing.
