EIGHTY-FIVE NOMINATIONS FOR THE PREAKNESS , , 0,000 Maryland Three-Year-Old Classic Attracts Stars of Division Pompoon, Reaping Reward, Brooklyn, Maedic, War Admiral and Other Standouts May Meet on Saturday, May 15 BALTIMORE, Md., April 8. Four Futurity winners head the list of eighty-five nominations received for the forty-seventh renewal of the Preakness Stakes, entries for which closed Monday, March 15. This is an increase over 1936. Pompoon, winner of the Futurity at Belmont Park; Reaping Reward, winner of the New England Futurity at Narragansett Park; Matey, winner of the Pimlico Futurity, and Triple Action, winner of the Maryland Futurity at Laurel, have been nominated and. are receiving a special preparation for the Preakness, is the word received from Matt. L. Daiger, the secretary of the Maryland Jockey Club. Fairy Hill, winner of the Santa Anita Derby, and Court Scandal, winner of the Flamingo Stakes, the three-year-old feature of the 1937 meeting at Hialeah Park, have also been named for the Preakness. The increase in the number of nominations received for the 1937 running is mainly due to increasing the added value to 0,000 for 1937. The race is for three-year-olds, at one and three-sixteenths miles, and will be run at Pimlico Saturday, May 15, one week after the Kentucky Derby. VANDERBILT LARGEST NOMINATOR. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, vice-president of the Maryland Jockey Club, heads the list of nominators with seven entries. William Woodward Belair Stud has named four; John Hay Whitney, four; Milky Way Farm, three; C. V. Whitney, three, and E. R. Bradley, three. Five Maryland breeders have nominated fourteen horses. They include J. H. Louch-heim, Mrs. Elizabeth C. Bosley, J. W. Y. Martin, Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt and William Woodward Belair Stud. Brooklyn heads the list of entries made by E. R. Bradley, who has also named Biologist and Billionaire. Flying Cross heads the list of nominations of C. V. Whitney, which include Black Look and Ptolemy. The Milky Way Farm, owned by Mrs. Ethel V. Mars of Chicago, besides naming Reaping Reward, has also included in her entries Military and Mars Shield. From Texas came the nominations of Heelfly from the Three Ds Stock Farm, Pet-rose from the Valdina Farms and Dawn Play from King Ranch.
