1 BOWIE TURF NOTES f o and Word reached here that Selby Burch moved the seventeen horses which he had in training at Benning to Havre de Grace to await the opening of the meeting there. Thomas Rodrock, who trains for K. E. Hitt, moved a division of his stable from Pimlico to Havre de Grace. The horses of the Shandon Farm stable in charge of J. J. Greely will be vanned to Havre de Grace in the next few days from Bowie. Those that arc scheduled to start during the closing days of the meeting will be left here to fulfill their engagements. Announcement was made by the Hagers-town Fair and Racing Association that Earl Walden has been appointed to serve as manager of the mutuel department during the ten-day meeting to be staged at the Hub City trade starting May 18. H. G. Bedwell and George Mayberry made application for stabling accommodations at Agawam Park with E. J. Brennan. Notables seen in the crowd at Bowie on Thursday were Vice-President Garner and Senators Sherman Minton of Indiana, Tom Connelly of Texas, Nathan L. Backman of Tennessee, Fred A. Brown of New Hampshire, and R. Duffy of Wisconsin. Mrs. Mary Burns, mother of former jockey Tommy Burns and grandmother of Tommy In the mutuel department Burns, who is employed here, died Wednesday at her home, 1742 East Fourteenth Street, Brooklyn, at the age of 80. Edward J. Brennan, who will serve as general manager for the Agawam Racing Association, busied himself distributing application blanks for stalls for the meeting that is scheduled to open May 29. Jockeys C. Rosengarten and W. Saunders cancelled their mounts on Thursday owing to illness. Jockey Joe Wagner has been engaged by H. G. Bedwell to ride Weston in the Southern Maryland Handicap, Saturday. Funeral services for the late jockey Paul McGinnis were held from St. Ambrose Church in Baltimore, Thursday morning. H. A. Brusie, Matt Smart, C. T. Grayson, H. P. Metcalf, R. S. Clark, E. P. Haslup, Miss B. Faulconer, M. R. Waugh and many others have made application for stabling room at Agawam Park. Thirty-eight horses, which are being handled by J. P. Jones for various clients, were transferred from the old J. K. L. Ross farm on Washington Boulevard to Havre de Grace early Thursday morning.
