BAKERSTOWN lacked early speed but moved fast on the outside when ready and, easily taking command in the stretch, won going away. BOSWORTH took a short lead rounding the stretch turn to draw into a good lead, but although going well to the end, could not resist the winner. HI-SWEET came again after dropping back and was going well at the end. BLACK SLEEVE also closed well. KEENE JACK got through an opening on the inside approaching the far turn to take a short lead, but tired badly in the stretch. DANKE SCHON quit badly. LADY ROMA drew away from KEOKEE after going half the distance and, responding to urging in the stretch, held BALKAN LAND at the end. The latter was outrun by the winner and KEOKEE in the early part, then saved ground on the stretch turn to move up steadily, but barely saved second place. BELOW ZERO came to the outside in the stretch to finish fast in the middle of the track and would have been second in a few more strides. KEOKEE was used up helping make the pace. UNCLE FRED went to the front at once to set a good pace under clever rating and, gamely withstanding a stretch challenge from EN MASSE, won narowly in a drive. The latter was close to the pace from the start and, challenging in determined fashion in the last eighth, drew up to the winner but tired a trifle right at the end. WHICHAWAY was outrun to the last quarter, then made up much ground. McCARTHY was in close quarters while racing on the inside. APPRENTICE raced wide and tired. BATTLING KNIGHT had no excuses and tired in the last eighth. JOE SAM made up much ground. WHITE BREAD went evenly. PRIMROSE DAY was in close quarters on the back stretch. THRILLING was close to the leaders from the start and, although racing wide on the stretch turn, took a short lead in the last eighth and was going away from MACLEOD BREEZE at the end. The latter, probably best, was shuffled back soon after the start, then raced into contention on the back stretch to loom dangerously in the stretch, but tired from his early efforts near the end. ITSOWN closed last and gamely NONPAREIL LAD set the pace and gamely withstood a challenge from MATHIESON approaching the stretch" turn, but tired in the last eighth.
