PRIVILEGED DOUBTFUL Trainer Frank Kearns Preparing Colt for Withers Stakes. Calumet Star Fired for Ankle Trouble Last Fall May Nqt Face Derby Barrier. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 8. Privileged became a very doubtful starter in the Kentucky Derby when it was learned today at Calumet Farm that trainer Frank Kearns i3 preparing him for the Withers at Belmont Park instead of an early appearance under silks. The son of Sir Gallahad III. and Concession, which won the Pimlico Futurity last fall, only to be disqualified and placed second, and was second in the Belmont Futurity and Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, was fired for ankle trouble upon his retirement in November, and it is believed that trainer Kearns wishes to give him a slower preparation than Galsun and Gosum, the other Derby candidates of Warren Wrights stable. These colts were sent a mile this morning over the private track in. 1:47, breezing. They were hard held all the way, doing the quarter in :26, half in :54 and three-quarters in 1:21. Jockey Irving Anderson was up on Galsun, with an exercise boy on the other colt. The track was a trifle slow because of recent rains. Galsun has been the medium of strong support in the future books. BROOKLYN PLEASES TRAINER. Late yesterday afternoon, when the track at Idle Hour Farm was in an improved condition, although still slow, trainer H. J. Thompson sent Brooklyn and Billionaire through individual trials over the mile distance. No time was announced, but trainer Thompson expressed himself as highly pleased. At Keeneland this morning the outstanding Derby workout was that of Main Man, owned by J. B. Respess, Erlanger, Ky., turfman. The son of Hildur and Rosemist, with jockey Bobby Dotter in the saddle, went the mile in 1:42 in handy fashion under the watchful eye of trainer B. F. Eyerman. The first quarter was run in :24, half in :49 and three-quarters in 1:16. Tom B. Young sent his Paris Prince a mile in 1:46, accompanied by Honor Her. He was timed the quarter in :25, half in :51 and three-quarters in 1:19. Kermay, which Lee ODonnell recently transferred here from Louisville, breezed six furlongs in 1:15, the quarter in :23 and half in :49. Black Gift, Leon Carters handicap horse, was hard held in doing a mile in 1:45.
