Won easily; second and third driving. rORTOLA STAR was close to SALMORE for a quarter, then easily raced to the front when ready and, racing as if much the best, opened up a long lead in the stretch. STARLQ was crowded back at the start and closed much ground to show a good effort. IDLER had a rough trip, being in close quarters several times v.hcr. attempting to save ground. GAY MANNERS made up ground steadily. HIDDEN ONE lost all chance when pulled up sharply when in close quarters around the far turn. SALMORE had early speed, but tired. R1PELE was shut off on the back stretch and was taken up, losing all chance. TARARA tired after making a brief move around the stretch turn. SAN ANSELMO dropped back to last place after breaking well. WHOOPEE LAD had some early speed. Overweight Ripele, 1 pound; Hidden One, 4; Wild Plunge, 1. SECOND RACE 4 1-2 FURLONGS. POLVOS PRINCE had speed from the start and, after following the pace of SISTINA to the stretch, went to the front "and had little trouble showing the way to the end. RICH BOY raced to a contending position after leaving the back stretch and caught SISTINA in the last sixteenth. The latter showed good early speed, but tired near the end. GOLD COLOR was forced to race wide. AMAZER could not keep up and was in close quarters on the stretch turn. GR1MBSY was shuffled back early. HELEN DRAUN was in close quarters in the early running. SKY WIND raced to the front at once and, racing BOSWORTH into defeat while making the pace, drew out in the stretch to win easily. REBUTTAL raced wide on the stretch turn, but finished with courage. BOSWORTH was used up trying to keep pace with the winner and had little left at the end. NASEBY closed ground from a rather slow start. CUYAMACA was close to the pace of SPEED HOME from the start and, although racing a trifle wide in the stretch, drew into a good lead and had enough left at the end to hold SEA CLIFF. The latter was slow to get going, but closed very fast on the inside and was gaining. CRYSTAL PAN showed a good ! effort to make up ground and finished fast. SIR RIDGWAY raced with the leaders to the stretch, then dropped back SPEED HOME tired badly. LADY BEWITHUS was in close quarters on the far turn and then dropped "back.
