OFF TRACK FOR OPENING Heavy Rains at Lexington Change Footing at Keeneland. Weather Conditions Fail to Halt Work in Preparation for Saturdays Inaugural Day Card. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 15. Chances for a muddy or slow track for Keenelands opening Saturday seemed certain today when the course was sloppy from heavy rains during the night and this morning, and the prospects were for a further downpour. However, the track had a good bottom and the training schedule was one of the busiest of the spring here. The change in conditions had no effect on plans for the opening, as the plant already is in readiness, with all departments engaging only in detail work to be completely prepared when the gates are opened Saturday. Mort Shaw, director of the parl-mutuel department, assembled his crew for a preview, while the secretarys office began the issuance of badges so that this task will be completed by tomorrow when entries are received for the inaugural program. Sidney S. Brown, who is in charge of the office, expects the original program to stand up if the track holds up well under the first heavy rain in a month, because of assurances from trainers. With the arrival of several stables from Louisville every stall on the grounds was Continued on twenty-third page. Notable workouts this morning, included the six furlongs effort of Manhasset Stables White Tie, a Derby eligible, which was timed in 1:16, handily, the quarter in :24 and the half in :49, and Shandon Farms Gold Flag breezing the same distance in 1:18, the quarter in :25 and the half in :52. Arriving today from Louisville were John McShane, with the horse Morts Pal, and T. L. Pierce, with Domiworth, Ramon and Susan Flag. E. N. Bisso came in from New Orleans with the improved WhipowilL Paul Keester, veteran Kentucky rider who has been exercising horses here for several weeks, reports that he will be able to ride at 115 pounds. Prominent arrivals for the opening were Mr. and Mrs. John A. Ritchie of Chicago, who are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Car-ruthers. Warren Wright, owner of Calumet Farm, arrived from Hot Springs to remain until after the Kentucky Derby running. Mrs. Wright preceded him here by a week. NO "DAILY DOUBLE." The Injury suffered by Miss Horton, Motor City Stables three-year-old, when she straddled the starting gate before the running of the Arkansas Derby, will keep the filly out of training for three months, according to trainer H. Upon examination, it was found the three-year-old Baron Gray, owned by the Darby Dan Farm stable, suffered several broken bones in his right front ankle while training over the local course Wednesday morning. It was necessary to destroy the son of Sir Gallahad III. Wednesday night.
