5,000 LATONIA DERBY Three-Year-Old Race Heads List of Latonias Specials. Six Other Features, Including La-tonia Oaks, Scheduled for Covington Meeting This Year. COVINGTON, Ky., April 15. The Latonia Derby, run annually since 18S3 and one of the most important events of its kind, will be renewed this season as the richest and the outstanding feature of the thirty-seven day Latonia meeting, opening on Saturday, May 29. Announcement to this effect was made today by Col. Matt J. Winn, president of the local track. The fixture, for three-year-olds exclusively, with decision over the long route of one mile and a quarter, will carry a purse of 5,000 in added money. Six other fixtures also are scheduled for renewal during the meeting. They are the ,000 added Latonia Oaks, for three-year-old fillies; ,000 added Quickstep Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward; ,500 added Enquirer Handicap, for three-year-plds and upward; ,500 added Independence Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward; ,500 added Clipsetta Stakes for two-year-old fillies, and the ,500 added Cincinnati Trophy for two-year-old colts and geldings. . ENTRIES CLOSE MAY 10. Entries for all of the seven stakes and handicaps are scheduled to close on Monday, May 10, and, as the closing date is two days after the Kentucky Derby, Americas premier .race, which will have its sixty-third running at Churchill Downs, Louisville, the Latonia Derby may be expected to draw the nominations of all contestants that acquit themselves with credit in the Falls City race. Frequently the name of the Kentucky Derby winner has been listed among Latonia Derby eligibles, though no winner of the Louisville race has accomplished a Kentucky-Double since Sir Huon captured honors in the two fixtures back in 1906. Scoring his second triumph in "derby" competition in successive days, Rushaway accounted for last years Latonia Derby. Twenty-four hours before, he scampered home in front in the Illinois Derby at Aurora. All entries and other communications should be forwarded to Churchill Downs-Latonia, Inc., Covington, Ky.
