ASSURED OF ENOUGH HORSES Record Number Expected at Omaha for Ak-Sar-Ben Meeting Julius Reeder Delayed in California. OMAHA, Neb., April 28. The entry list for Ak-Sar-Bens 1937 race meeting may not set a new record for total nominations, but it will surely set a new all time high in the caliber of horseflesh under roof here. Thats the promise of W. H. Schellberg, chairman of the Omaha racing committee after checking the approved entry list Addition of .eight full carloads of runners from the Arlington Downs meeting and another eight cars scheduled for shipment from Aurora boosts to nearly 500 the thoroughbreds which have won the stamp of approval from Martin L. Nathanson, presiding steward, and Julius G. Reeder, the new racing secretary. Ten cars are ticketed for Omaha delivery from California tracks and Reeder, who recently completed service as general manager and racing secretary at Tanforan, has assured Schellberg that the California thoroughbreds represent some of the best of the West Coast racers. Reeder has been delayed in California and will not arrive in Omaha until early next week. After a brief stopover he will continue east seeking more stables. Recent heavy rains have aided track superintendent Jimmle Ronin groom the track and he promises it will be in the best of condition soon. The Ak-Sar-Ben oval, with its natural cushion, is considered by racing men an ideal track over which to train and run a horse. Past history shows that few horses have broken down at Ak-Sar-Ben, as the cushion affords a natural protection.
