EDW. P. STRONG TAKES OVER River Downs General Manager Begins Working on Preparation of Track for Coming Meeting. CINCINNATI, Ohio, April 20. Edward P. Strong, general manager of the River Downs Racing Association, and Harry Allshouse, who will serve as a steward during the spring meeting, arrived in Cincinnati early this week and they immediately took over the job of getting the various departments ready for opening day. Mr. Strong and Mr, Allshouse spent the winter months at their palatial homes in Miami, Fla. Both are in good health and they look as though they did quite a bit of basking under the warm Florida sun. Viewed from every angle, the River Downs Racing Association seems destined to enjoy one of the most brilliant spring meetings in the history of horse racing in greater Cincinnati. Twenty-three days of racing will be held at the beautiful up-the-river race course starting Wednesday, May 4, and ending Monday, May 30, with the first running of .the Decoration Day Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and one-sixteenth, which will carry a value of ,500 in added money as the feature attraction on the closing day program. The River Downs management was cheated of a chance to race last spring because of havoc wrought at the track by the record-breaking Ohio River Valley flood. Far from discouraged by the great amount of damage that the swollen waters of the Ohio did to the track property, officials of the River Downs Association remodeled the entire plant last summer at a cost of more than 75,000, and now it is rated as one of the most beautiful race tracks in the country.
