FIGHTING FOX IN BREEZE Woodward Star Moves Another Step Toward Stakes Engagements. Works Seven: Furlongs Over Aqueduct Course in l:27--Stormscud in Impressive Trial. JAMAICA, N. Y., April 20. Fighting Fox, William Woodwards brother to Gallant Fox, made another step toward the Wood Memorial and the Kentucky Derby a week later when James Fitzsimmons permitted him to breeze along for seven furlongs at Aqueduct this morning. The son of Sir Gallahad HI. and Marguerite was accompanied by his usual work mate, Madero, but only for the first half mile, when Fighting Fox drew away alone. "Fitz" had his star break a good five lengths back of Madero, but he was quickly alongside to shake him off at will. He ran the first half in :48 and the next quarter in :26 to reach the six furlongs mark in 1:15 and the final furlong was run in :12 to complete the seven furlongs in 1:27. Madero, which, incidentally, is also a Kentucky Derby eligible, though he will not be sent to Louisville, ran his first half in :49 and completed the six furlongs in 1:17. All through the move Fighting Fox was under a steady restraint and there is no doubt of his being fit and ready for racing. STORMSCUD IMPRESSES. Stormscud, another of the Fitzsimmons three-year-olds, which has already won at the meeting for the Wheatley Stable, was also under saddle and he impressed greatly when he worked a handy mile in 1:40. The son of Hard Tack and Blustery is eligible for both the Stuyvesant Handicap, to be run Saturday, and the Wood Memorial, and he is close to top form. With such a pair, as well as Ogden Phipps Magic Hour and the Wheatley Stables Quick Devil all eligible for the Wood, Fitzsimmons holds a particularly strong hand for that 0,000 prize. It has been decided that Stormscud will be sent to Havre de Grace to keep his engagement in the Chesapeake Handicap, to be run over the Maryland course Saturday, so that he will not be seen in the Stuyvesant, but he will be back in plenty of time for the Wood, should it be decided to send him out with Fighting Fox. He is not an eligible for the Kentucky Derby. Mrs. Parker Comings Thanksgiving is another which will be sent to Havre de Grace for the Chesapeake. The son of Bud Lerner has been working well at Belmont Park and seems to be right up to a race.
