TRIALS FOR DIXIE HANDICAP Rex Flag Shows to Best Advantage at Havre de Grace. Howard Braces Jay Jay Gallops Half Mile in :50 Sun Egrets Injury Probably Minor One. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 20 Five of the outstanding contenders for the 0,000 Dixie on May 11 at Pimlico were given speed tests here this morning, with Mrs. Louise Viaus Rex Flag turning in the most impressive work. Trainer J. P. "Doc" Jones sent Rex Flag, four-year-old chestnut gelded son of Omar Khayyam Pennant Queen, a mile in 1:43. It was the best move the gelding has shown since being vanned oyer from winter quarters at the old J. K. L. Ross farm. If he continues to improve he will be mighty dangerous in the Maryland Jockey Clubs stake nexth month. Other Dixie eligibles working this morning were Brandywine Stables Masked General, winner of the Harford Handicap last Saturday, going a slow mile in 1:49; Belair Studs Isolater, which went seven-eighths in 1:31; Mrs. P. D. L. Watts Busy K., traveling seven-eighths in 1:34, and Haughton P. Met-calfs High Velocity, going a handy mile in 1:46. GOOD WORK. Howard Bruces Jay Jay, early favorite for the ,500 Baltimore Spring Handicap, opening feature, May 2, at Pimlico, showed that he did not lose any of his speed in his recent second to Masked General, by reeling off a half mile in :50. Mrs. Elmer Truemans Pimlico Oaks candidate, Toddle On, stepped three-eighths in :36. She will be seen under silks tomorrow, which will likely be her last race before she is vanned to Pimlico to keep her stake engagements. A. C. Comptons Sun Egret, a supplementary entry to the 0,000 Preakness on May 14 at Pimlico, regained many followers this morning by stepping a fast mile in 1:41. The move proves that Sun Egret was not injured as badly as was at first expected in the recent running of the Harford Handicap.
