MISS DOLPHIN IN FAST TtACE Runs Six Furlongs in 1 :12 to Outlast Bacon in Claiborne Handicap. Eagle Pass Fails to Threaten Under Top Weight Large Crowd Present Despite Cloudy Weather. LEXINGTON, Ky.," April 20. Miss Dolphin, from the stable of Mrs. A. M. Creech, used the seasoning she had gained in winter campaigning in New Orleans to excellent advantage in defeating seven other capable sprinters in the Claiborne Handicap, feature of this afternoons Keeneland program. Another fine crowd turned out, although the weather was cloudy, but the track returned to fast condition. Taking up 111 pounds, including Jack Richard, the four-year-old daughter of Stimulus and Tinamou ran the six furlongs in 1:12 to defeat the Tall Trees Stables Bacon by three-fourths of a length, the latter finishing well before Calumet Farms Crossbow II., the favorite. Broadway was fourth. STARTS SLOWLY. The Creech filly was off poorly, but Richard guided her to the inside and she moved up fast approaching the turn out of the back-stretch. Silverette had set the pace from the start, closely followed by Bacon, while Crossbow II. was rated in third place on the outside. Rounding the turn, the field bunched up with Miss Dolphin being taken towards the outside, where she forced out the favorite. With the field straightened out for the run home, Bacon enjoyed a slight lead, but Miss Dolphin was moving in her best stride and, after putting away the Tall Trees veteran in a brisk duel, she drew away gradually. Crossbow II. was unable to respond to urging and the leaders drew away from him, but he drew too far ahead of the others to be troubled for third honors. Broadway went evenly to be fourth as Silverette tired. Eagle Pass, the top weight, was unable to threaten at any stage. ODDESA PLUCKY GRADUATES. Oddesa Plucky, owned by Oddesa Farms, graduated at the first asking in taking the opening dash over the Headley Course over eleven other plater youngsters. Ridden by R. Conley, the daughter of Gallant Sir The French Girl was rushed to the front right after the start and remained there under strong urging. In running the distance in :48, she won by a half length oyer Wood-vale Farms Whinchat as Rolls Wind, owned by Johnson and Podesta, was another two lengths away and a similar- distance before Grace Whisk. Miss Nan OMalleys three-year-old filly Delovely proved much the best of the field of eight that contested in the second, at a mile and one-sixteenth, and carried jockey Melvin Lewis to the initial victory of his . comeback in the saddle. The chestnut filly trounced Blue Ice by the decisive margin of a length and one-quarter, while third money was gathered in by Dear Me. CROWDED BACK. Crowded back around the lower turn and forced to take back to last place, Delovely was taken .to the outside of the field and worked her way up to the leaders when the final quarter of the contest was reached Continuing courageously under strong riding, Delovely wore down Dear Me in the last sixteenth and drew, away steadily. Wall and Dear Me had dominated the running for seven-eighths of a mile, but lacked sufficient stamina to repulse the challenge of the ultimate winner. Dixiana produced its first winner of the meeting when Allegro, odds-on favorite, proved much the best of the capacity field of maiden two-year-old colts and geldings meeting over the Headley Course in the third race. Running the distance in :47, the home-bred gelded son of High Time Brenda scored by two and one-half lengths over Detector, owned by Riedinger Bros., as H. P. Headleys Supreme Speed was another five lengths back. Sure Off was fourth. Judging of the yearling fillies at Keeneland, is scheduled "or Friday, April 22, it . was learned from breeders who entered con-. testants in the colts judging event conducted Wednesday afternoon at the local course.
