Willie Root, who came from Agua Caliente; Walter Stark, an ar- rival from Tanforan; D. Morgan motored in from Cincinnati; apprentice Dave McClin- jtock, another to come from California; Villie Morrissey will free-lance it r ere. he also made the trip from the west coast; Jimmy "Red" Piatt, affiliated with the stable of R. L. Anderson, was another that applied for ja license, and the veteran Claude Hunt was I among the belated arrivals. He will ride for J. A. Presbury. Stu-ter Noel Chilcutt, a former rider, is of the opinion hat jockeys make the best assistant starters, and had no less than four former riders on his staff. They are: Billy Mills, "Hank" Mills, E. "Speedy" ODoud and George Kidr "Hank" Mills was one of the outstanding riders in America a few years ago. Z. E. McGregor, who has developed sev-■ eral jockeys, will start another on his career, when : ; presents apprentice Charles C. Col-| berg to the Omaha public, Saturday. The youngster, who hails from Pender, Neb., is 17 years old and tips the beam at 96 pounds. Colberg has several engagements for the opening day. There was quite an influx of horses to reach Ak-Sar-Ben Friday with performers coming from various parts of the continent Fred B. Smith, trainer for Mrs. H. G. Hyde and others, brought ven head comprised of Mica Rock, St. Mica, Bon Champ, Flodur Surveyor, and Flutter Up. In the shipment which arrived from igua Caliente were the horses of Bertozzi Bros., consisting of Jungle Pirate, Beaches, Fritter Circle and San Ardo. Those which came in the same car in charge of R. L. Anderson were Southern Belle, Polvos Pride, Frevaricate and Bead-work. Among the riders that came here with good riding records is: Eddie De Prang, who came from Cincinnati. Eddie Deisam will book De Prangs engagements. Another capable pilot is Willie Root. He was among the high ranking riders at Agua Caliente. Jimmy Ashcroft was another that rode at the Mexican -ourse and gives good promise of developing to a capable jockey. Ashcroft won the first race of his career about six weeks ago and with his apprentice allowance should obtain plenty of mounts. Trainer J. E. Copenhaver has been appointed trainer for R. L. Ross Royal Flint and will condition him for his future engagements. Jack "Frenchy" Noel checked in with two horses of which his wife is owner of Caterer, while Sun Dog, another in his charge will represent Nae J es. F. S. Blair was another that came from the East arriving with the horses Lee Walker, Jim McConnell, Tambov, and Polv-whisk. ■
