SANTAN, eased back when in rather close quarters before going three-eighths, continued in hand while racing wide on the stretch turn, gradually raced to BLACK BUDDY when under strong urging in the stretch and outgamed the latter in the closing strides. BLACK BUDDY had speed from the start, made the early pace in hand, also came out in the stretch and held on well, but was not good enough. THROUGH FAIRLY was under hustling tactics from the start and failed to keep up after five-eighths. BILLIES ORPHAN had no mishaps. SAY WHEN pulled up lame. ANNOYED, away slowly and rushed into command on the inside, maintained fine speed throushout and won in hand. PERSONABLE had good speed from the start, was forced to race wide, but out-uyed PAUL SCARLET. The latter, also away slowly and rushed into a contending position, was returned to strong urging after reaching the stretch and held on fairly well. PLAYREEN, away in a tangle, showed a good effort. POLSUN had no excuses. PRESUMPTION began fast, but could not hold the advantage. Scratched— 57756 Startling, 116. Overweight — Kai-Wasp, 2 pounds. The latter took command with a rush, saved ground throughout and held on well, but was not good enough. ROCEMUS was on the inside on the turn, shook off FLYING DOLL in the stretch and closed eamely. though bearing out. FLYING DOLL began fast, raced wide on the turn and tired in the stretch SHAWANA was outrun. MISS DIAMOND bolted on the turn. FOURTH RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. FUMBLE, reserved off the pace and raced very wide early, came out again after saving ground on the stretch turn, but returned to the inside in the final eighth and. closing boldly, got up in the last strides. JUDGE LEER, under urging from the start and inclined to bear to the inside, had to he straightened up several times in the stretch, where he came to the outside of RIPPLEALONG, got to the front near the end, and but for again bearing out, might have lasted. RIPPLEALONG displayed fair speed in the pacemaking, was raced a trifle wide and was going gamely under strong handling when slightly impeded near the end. MISS WISE swerved to the inside shortly after the start, her rider suffering interference at the time and tired after reaching the stretch. CALCULATOR quit. FIFTH RACE SIMILE. HELLO CAP, away fast but steadied when unable to outrun VTRAGIN, was placed to strong urging after reaching the stretch and, wearing down VTRAGIN, appeared ready to draw out. The latter had fine speed under vigorous riding, saved ground on the turn and held on with good courage to the end although she could not hold the winner. SOUTHLAND GEM, away well but unable to keep up, closed resolutely under mild urging. TECHNICIAN, timidly handled, might have been a more formidable factor under a strong ride. MATURE, probably much the best, followed the early pacemaker under snug restraint for about three-q-.:..vCr.v was forced very wide entering the stretch, stood a drive gamelv, while wearing down WAYALOFT and swerd near the end, but lasted to deadheat with MISINFORMATION. The latter, on the inside throughout and allowed to remain out of it in the early racing, closed resolutely under strong riding but was lucky to get up to deadlock MATURE. WAYALOFT made the early pace in hand, went out badly on the stretch turn and gave way slowly in the drive. CROSS RUFF kept up under light urging, dropped back as if through when entering the stretch, but came again. ERUPTION beean to improve his position after three-quarter, and was blocked near the end. COUNTESS LENA, under strong restraint to the final quarter, raced into command gradually and, continuing strongly, through the final eighth, opened up a big advantage, but had little left. DUSKY MAID, also in hand for about three-quarters, held on well when placed to pressure, but was no match for the winner. COLONEL JOE, fractious at the post and away slowly, began to move up approaching the stretch, but tired in the late stages. BESS B. was under urging after a half mile and tired badly in the stretch. TRY BACK quit. POWERS GOURAUD showed little. Corrected weight — Dusky Maid, 111.
