SHREVEPORT PROVES POPULAR Indications Pointing to Successful Meeting Stall Demand Heavy. Increased Purses and Improved Facilities Serve as Magnets Shultz Bros. Big String Arrives. SHREVEPORT, Xa., Oct. 14. Racing paakes its return to north Louisiana in plightly more than a week, In connection With the opening of the annual Louisiana State Fair, under far more auspicious aspects than it did a year ago when the thoroughbred sport was revived in Caddo Par-rish after having been dormant for more than fifteen years. Demand for stabling accommodations, plus the steady arrival of horses which have been granted reservations, is indicative of the interest, being manifested by turfmen of all i sections. The increased purses and improved facilities serve as a magnet in drawing an excellent caliber of racers for the meeting of twenty-five days at this half-mile track. It has been necessary for the management of the State Jockey Club to reject a number of requests for stabling room on the grounds, despite the fact that ten new barns were constructed. One of the largest shipments of the week to arrive at the State Fair grounds was unloaded this morning find placed in quarters when the thoroughbreds owned by the Shultz Brothers checked in from Fairmount Park. The consignment totaled twelve head and was made up of such campaigners as Merry Freda, Prince Pad, Gannonnic, Bahadur, Polite Ford, Proposing, Whisk K., Cloudet, Dunce, Captain Logan and Zelady. SHULTZ BROS. STABLE. The Shultz Brothers cut a wide swath in the Fairmount Park autumn meeting, which came to a close recently, and are expected to prove one of the big winners at the local course during the forthcoming season. The promising young apprentice, Charlie "Williams, contract rider for the stable, accompanied the shipment and will do the bulk of the stables riding. Former jockey Hank Manifold, who only recently joined the ranks of trainers, is another to put in his appearance here and brought three horses of his own as well as two for L. D. Moore, who will arrive later to assume the training duties of his stock. Manifold has Amasin, Belle of Midway and Trace Boy, while the Moore colorbearers are Potion, a winner at Hollywood Park, in California during the past summer, and Spickeen. One of the real veterans of the turf, J. W. Potter, brought in the good three-year-old My Feng and the older Levi Cooke from St. Louis and Kenny Cronk came in from the same point with Goodbye Blues and Will Hoover brought in Phrixus from the same point. MORE SHIPMENTS EXPECTED. Other shipments are reported en route from Fairmount Park and are expected to reach here in the next twenty-four hours, while still others are scheduled to head in this direction from River Downs and Sportsmans Park, which will exhaust the stall supply, which is already reaching the point of overflowing. All of the official personnel of the racing department of State Jockey Club is on the scene with the exception of presiding steward Charles F. Henry, who will arrive next week to go over applications of jockeys and trainers for licenses. A number of registrations have been turned in by horsemen and the racing secretarys department is now in full swing.
