FOREIGN SPENDING IN AMERICA Revelations Show Large Sums of Money Being Spent to Further Causes in This Country. WASHINGTON, D. C, Oct. 14. Further revelations of the large sums foreign principals are spending in the United States to further their causes were made today with the announcement by the state department that forty-four additional foreign representatives had registered their activities. Hugo V. DAnnunzio, son of the famous Italian soldier-poet, registered as an agent of the Italian government, receiving ,500. He stated his purpose was to promote better relations between the United States and Italy. China was revealed to be spending 0,000 through Carol Byoir and Associates, Inc., of New York City, for ten months in publicizing efforts to raise funds for Chinese relief. One of the largest expenditures yet disclosed was ,500,000 annually by the British Empire Chamber of Commerce in the United States. The organizations headquarters are in New York. It disclaimed, however, any political purpose and said its efforts were directed solely in the promotion of trade. There have been 130 registrations thus far under the new law requiring all representatives of foreign principals to register with the state department.
