j COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES Outstanding Teams of Country to Be Seen in Action Today. Million or More to See or Listen to Play-by-Play of Great Contests to. Be Staged This Afternoon. The college football season goes into high this afternoon. A million or more will either see or "listen in" to the radio play-by-play broadcast of the college games throughout the country. Here in the Middle West the rejuvenated Michigan team, under its new coach, Fritz Crisler, will attempt to smash down the powerful Minnesota Gophers, a task which three other teams have failed to accomplish this year. Minnesota counts on its "power" to overcome the speed of the Wolverine backfield. Experts predict victory for the big men of the North. Another powerful eleven which will mostiy rely on its "powerhouse" line to stop the speedy backs of Northwestern is the 200-pound line of Ohio State. Both of these teams, as well as those of Michigan and Minnesota, are members of the Big Ten" and victory means much to all. Northwestern is given a slight edge on Ohio State. Down at South Bend, Illinois for the first time in its history is invading the home of Notre Dame, which this year is reported to have one of its "great" teams. While the fans of Notre Dame, nation-wide in numbers, will make Elmer Laydens team an 8 to 5 favorite all expect Illinois to be the toughest foe yet encountered by the Irish this year. Wisconsin meets the all-powerful Pittsburgh Panthers, rated one of the best teams in the entire country, and all experts cannot see anything but an easy triumph for Pittsburgh, though some make reservations that Wisconsin may surprise. As high as 5 to 1 is being quoted on Pittsburgh. DARTMOUTH TOPS IN EAST. In the East, Dartmouth is selected to run over Brown by a large score. Navy to beat I Yale, Army to trample over Harvard, Penn j to lower the colors of Princeton, Columbia to prevail over Colgate, and Cornell to out-1 last Syracuse, while Fordham is counted on to trim Purdue, which is going east after its losing but hectic struggle with Minnesota last week-end. Down south Alabama, is rated a candidate for national honors and should take a tough Tennessee team into camp this afternoon.
