OUTSIDERS IN LIMELIGHT Honey Cloud Takes Ritchie Handicap Before Armistice Day Crowd. Lady Maryland and High Lark Finish Second and Third Respectively Favorites Fail Dismally. BALTIMORE, Md., Nov. 11. Outsiders captured the Ritchie Handicap, which featured an attractive Armistice Day program at Pimlico this afternoon, and when the dust of fourteen speedsters clashing at six furlongs had cleared away the winner was posted as Mrs. A. J. Abels Honey Cloud. He took the ,780 prize and the handsome silver trophy by three-fourths of a length over Gustav Rings Lady Maryland, as Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts High Lark was a similar margin back in third place. Of the highly fancied starters, Clingendaal proved the most successful in running fourth. Ideal autumn weather prevailed for the presentation of the holiday sport and a crowd of approximately 20,000 persons was on hand. For the second running of the Ritchie, whose inaugural was captured by High Fleet, the public installed the Liberty Flight-The Fighter entry as favorite and the A. C. Compton pair of Sun Egret and Clingendaal as second choice, but all of these, as well as the well-supported Rough Time, were found wanting. Leaving the post with surprising speed, Creole Maid set the pace with a couple of lengths to spare in the run down the back stretch as High Lark, Liberty Flight, Honey Cloud and Rough Time were the most prominent of the group following her. Rounding the turn Creole Maid shortened her stride and Johnny Longden brought up Honey Cloud out of the bunch, to challenge for the lead along with High Lark at the head of the stretch. The four-year-old gelding by High Cloud and Honey Pot, which had finished third in the Riggs Handicap, at a mile and three-sixteenths, in his last start, had too much stamina and ability for High Lark and drew away from him, later standing off the late challenge of Lady Maryland as she came out of the pack in the stretch. High Lark faltered in the final furlong, but managed to hold third honors as Clingendaal finished steadily after overcoming poor racing luck on the turn. Sun Egret was fifth, and Liberty Flight sixth. The time was 1:12 and Honey Cloud carried 110 pounds. The victory completed a double for Longden, and it would have been a triple but for the disqualification of Histrionic in the fourth race.
