PART ONE, lacking early speed, improved his position when placed to punishment and closed fast on the inside of the winner. BALKAN WAR showed good speed while setting the pace and held on well when overhauled. FICTITIOUS challenged stoutly on the. turn and finished on the outside. SAVING GRACE was prominent, but was not good enough. PUZZLE DANCE lost ground. BUDS KING showed early speed. ASTER PRINCESS tired. BULLET B. raced in dull fashion. BEAMING LADY tired. EPICAL was prominent early and came willingly under a vigorous drive. LADY ORCHID improved her position gamely and closed with good energy on the outside. MINTSON outbroke his field, furnished a steady pace and continued gamely while saving ground. BRANNON broke slower than usual, then circled his field to finish strongly. DEFLATE saved ground, but was not dangerous. OVER YONDER was ridden hard and had no excuses. ORIENT EXPRESS could not threaten. HERMOSILLO was never a factor. WILD SON, full of run, assumed command at the seventh jump, went into a long lead, jumped nicely throughout and held sway without being extended. HOMESTEADER, saved back of his opposition for the First mile and a half, worked his way forward steadily and finished with good courage, although no match for the winner. RED WARRIOR, permitted to drop back after going a mile and a half, moved up fast to make determined bids, but tired when the real test came. BELL MAN began tiring after a mile and was held safe. HISTRIONIC, full of run from the beginning, raced to the front at the half-mile mark, was unable to get clear, responded gamely to punishment, then interfered with QUAKERESS and SUNTIME in the closing sixteenth, barely lasting long enough, but was disqualified for fouling. SUNTIME was rated within striking distance of the leaders, challenged strongly entering the stretch and just failed to get up after suffering interference. QUAKERESS was stoutly ridden, made repeated bids and fought it out willingly after meeting with late interference. DIP dropped back on the final turn, came again and finished with a rush on the inside. BROWN KNIGHT could not challenge at any stage. MISS CANRON ran up on horses heels on the first turn, her rider lost his stirrup irons and she was never dangerous. BILLMAR fell back when straightened into the back stretch. CARVOLA, sluggish in the early running, circled her field and finished gamely. UNHERALDED was ridden hard, but could not engage the leaders. GENIE PALATINE raced strongly for three-quarters, then tired. RUST was pinched back at the half-mile post and could not menace thereafter. STROLLING BY could not get to the leaders. HONEY CLOUD had good speed to be prominent, challenged strongly on the turn, went forward to take the lead on the stretch turn while losing ground, then withstood a stout drive to stall off LADY MARYLAND. The latter raced in tight quarters early, found racing room in the last five-sixteenths and finished full of run. HIGH LARK was a strong contender in the early part and held on with good courage in the final drive. CLINGENDAAL was caught in tight quarters after the start, gained racing room and finished strongly. SUN EGRET weaved between horses and came gamely. LIBERTY FLIGHT was under severe pressure, but could not stay. ACCOLADE failed to enter contention. ROUGH TIME was in the first flight and had no mishaps. CREOLE MAID displayed much speed, but tired nearing the stretch. FINANCE was shuffled back in the opening eighth. BENJAM was outrun. MOWER showed a flash of speed. OUTBOARD, away slower than usual, was rushed up into a forward position and hung after making a bold bid on the final turn. ORTHOPRISM, a slow beginner, raced very wide to make up much ground. WAKA was steadied, but failed to stay when shaken up. SUN SWEEP tired after three-quarters. THREE GRAND tired. HIGH BETSY had no mishans. BROWN LIGHT pulled up very lame.
