POKERFACE ROSS, close up throughout and saving much ground, showed a good effort, but could not threaten the winner. BLACK SERGEANT, never far out of it and hard hustled all the way, closed well. AIRGLIDE broke slowly, worked her way up between horses and made up some ground. VOLA BOWERS, taken up sharply soon after the start, was taken to the outside and closed a good gap. WOODEN SOLDIER began sluggishly, but settled into stride quickly and was. never far out of it. SUE HARPEN made up some ground. VI SAN could not keep up. SAYLOMA, restrained off the early pace and well handled, responded gamely when briskly roused in the final quarter, came up on the outside with a rusk and wore down SIOUX CHIEF in the last twenty yards. SIOUX CHIEF was rushed into the lead, saved ground while setting the pace and continued gamely under urging, but was not good enough. HIGH COLOR forced the pace for most of the trip, but tired when placed to extreme pressure. GEORGES HEIR tired in the drive. AMERICAN KING was hard urged throughout, but could not keep up.
