Justagal and Justa Flight are the only, aged horses E. H. Gaines has here for Mrs. M. R. Waugh. Gaines is prepping six yearlings for the Maryland sportswoman. In addition to Morning Cry, Frank Grand is breaking a yearling colt by Dr. Cardenas Thistle Cleo, which he has named Dr. Mud-Bug. The youngster was bred and raised on the farm near the old Jefferson Park track. Having ridden only two races since suffering an injury to his arm when thrown from Franks Boy at Thistle Down this past summer, Earl Pool, who has ridden more than 1,350 winner since earning his initial victory, is going to attempt a comeback. The veteran, who was resting at his Cincinnati home, accepted an offer tended him by Freddie McElroy to come here and ride for the N. L. Naylor stable, which is trained by McElroy. Pool has been galloping horses the past ten days getting fit for the opening here Thanksgiving Day. Wm. Lutz has been here several days with the string of his well known father, Gene Lutz. During the absence of his father, Lutz will direct the training of Arthur Coventry, Don Pancho, Lester P. and Irene Grant. Young Lutz has Merne for his own account and is also training Incarnation for Van Horton. Apprentice J. Butler, who rode twenty winners this summer, is under engagement to the stable. After putting away the crack two-year-old, T. M. Dorsett, which arrived the early part of the week from Churchill Downs, where he was an easy winner of the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, trainer J. B, Theall decided to take a vacation and left for Lake Charles, La., to spend a week with relatives. Theall and Leon "Buddy" Haas, contract rider for the Joe W. Brown stable, are scheduled to return here on the fifteenth. During his absence jockey D. Dubois is directing the establishment. Kenneth Greever, one of the leading riders at Thistle Down last summer, was an arrival from Toronto. Jules Green, manager of The Boarder Stock Farm, maintained by F. J. Demary at Orange, Texas, was an arrival from the farm and will act as agent for the stable during the Fair Grounds meeting. The stable of Z. E. McGregor, Claremore, Okla., horseman, has been here since the close of Fairmount Parks meeting. The campaigners in the McGregor stable are Tarping, The Pelican, Impeach, Wenet and Charwitch. Retiring from the saddle four years ago to train horses, Ralph Whittaker, who makes his home here, announced he was going to attempt a come-back. Down to 110 pounds and galloping horses all summer has fit Whittaker for his return to the saddle during the early part of the long local meeting. Among the many improvements made at the Fair Grounds is the raising of the outer rail on the back stretch. The fence from the six furlongs chute to the four and one-half furlongs post has been lifted 13 inches. Apprentice Charles Carlberg, Pender, Neb., youth, under contract to Z. E. McGregor, was an arrival from his home today. Carlberg, who led the riders at Dade Park and who has accounted for thirty-five winners since his initial victory at Omaha this summer, can- do less than 100 pounds.
