SCOTCH THISTLE VICTORIOUS Accounts for Red River Purse at Shreveport Track. Irish Girl Provides Chief Contention and Finishes Second Big Crowd on Ladies Day. SHREVEPORT, La., Nov. 14. The Red River Purse, at six and one-half furlongs, headlined Mondays ladies day program- at the local fair grounds and in it J. Johnsons Scotch Thistle raced to a most popular victory. Making her second start, of the meeting, the daughter of -Sir Andrew led from shortly after the start to the end and paid 3 to 2 in the mutuels. Irish Girl provided the chief contention and wound up in second place, while Thresher finished third and Rustic Lassie fourth. Six others rounded out the field. Cleverly ridden by apprentice W. Page, Scotch Thistle drew into a big lead after the opening quarter and still was four lengths in front entering the stretch. Irish Girl meanwhile was moving up boldly and only missed by a length of catching the Johnson filly. Though she could not get to the winner, Irish Girl was easily best of the others as she took second place three lengths before Thresher. Rustic Lassie was just a head farther away at the end. Little Coquina was in the first flight for about half the distance, but then began to falter and was far back as the field crossed the line of finish. Scotch Thistle covered the distance over the prevailing fast track in 1:22. A surprisingly large Monday crowd was in attendance, which was augmented no little by women fans who were guests of the management. Splendid weather prevailed, and with the formful racing made the day a pleasant one for the spectators.
