Former Steeplechaser Ossabaw Shows Speed in Training Five South American Horses in Workouts. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Nov. 28. Tanforan may be in for some muddy racing during the coming five days. Rain clouds began to gather in the sky Monday morning, and by the time the entries for Tuesdays races closed owners of animals partial to the "off going were lining up at the window to nominate for the program which will usher in the third week of racing at the Marchbank track. The entry list for Tuesday was exceptionally heavy. Six of the eight events were filled to overflowing and it was found necessary to exclude 107 horses from the list. The feature races, named the Albany and the Berkeley, attracted the only below-limit bands. Seven have been named in the Albany and six in the Berkeley. The Albany is at six furlongs, and Clar-I carole, which should have won last time out but failed because of interference, will be one of the favorites. Foam, George Gian-ninis recent acquisition, will also go post-ward, as will Sky Grenade, Sky Glare, Denbigh, Return Check and Silver Sarah. The field in the Berkeley is evenly matched. The distance is one mile and seventy yards, and Bar Play and Cross S. are the high weights, with 113 pounds each. Cross S. ran a good race Saturday, but met a tartar in the French horse Mount Vernon II. and could do no better than finish second. Others in the Berkeley are Calaveras, Amneris, Paper Sun and Deer Fly. Clockers are waxing enthusiastic over the manner in which the former steeplechaser Ossabaw has been training at Tanforan and predict that the reformed hurdler will make things uncomfortable for some of our top stake horses during the next six months. Ossabaw, which is owned by Louis B. Mayer, worked a fast five-eighths in 1:01 Monday Continued on fifteenth page. TANFORANS BIG ENTRY LIST Continued from first page. morning. The watch-holders say that he could easily have cracked 1:00 had he been let out. Among other horses to work out recently were the five South American thoroughbreds brought to this country by Horace Luro of the Argentine. The South Americans are coming along nicely, according to reports, but they may not appear under silks until the Santa Anita meeting. The three leading trainers, Eual Wyatt, Earl Beezley and Ted Horning, have not added much to their score since the Tan-ftiran meeting bean. Wyatt has saddled Time Flight for two victories, while Beezley won a race with Susi Q and Horning one with Parscout. The opposition at Tanforan ; has been mighty tough for the leaders. The feature race of the coming week will be the Golden Gate Handicap, to be decided Saturday. Dogaway, considered outstanding among western sprinters, will probably be the high weight. Dogaway has been training faithfully and went a neat three-quarters in his Monday morning trial. Mr. Blaze, winner of the Inaugural Handicap at Agua Caliente, will be shipped up for the Golden Gate.
