I I POPE PIUS MUCH IMPROVED VATICAN CITY, Italy, Nov. 28. His indomitable spirit and physical fortitude, which enabled him to rise from his sick-bed Saturday, today carried Pope Pius farther towards recovery in spite of a week-end of sacrifice :and strain. The 81-year-old pontiff, it was announced, spent a good night of peaceful sleep. He arose early and attended a special prayer service marking the beginning of his annual spiritual retreat at 10 a. m.
