! SAN FRANCISCO HANDICAP Crack Field Named for the 0,000 Added Closing Day Stake Event. Ligaroti, Main Man, Specify the Principal Contestants in the Field Pari-Mutuel Handle Large. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Dec. 16. Ligaroti, number six post position, jockey Richardson; Main Man, number ten post position, jockey Woolf ; Specify number 4 post position, jockey Corbett. That is the manner in which the contenders for the 0,000 added San Francisco Handicap will line up at Tanforan Saturday afternoon to do battle for the richest prize of the meeting. Ligaroti will race coupled with Comet II., and Olimpo making an All-South American team. Main Man will have Routine as a running companion. Specify will go it alone. Aside from the horses mentioned above Pageboy, Piccolo, Advocator and Mr. Blaze are in the field. They must be considered rank outsiders. Pageboy has been beaten by cheaper ones at the meeting. Piccolo hardly seems to class with the favorites and may be in need of a race. Mr. Blaze is better in the mud and Advocator has yet to prove by Western performances that he can defeat the high weights. Therefore it is Ligaroti, Main Man and Specify for it and take your choice. All three have able jockeys aboard and the weights as set are satisfactory to the owners. The San Francisco figures to be a nip-and-tuck tussle and one of the best horse races staged in the North in several seasons. Ligaroti and his running mate will probably be favored at about 8 to 5. Specify may be the second- choice over Main Man and Routine. Write your own ticket on the others. Owner A. A. Bing Crosby will be on hand to watch the Binglin entry perform. Louis B. Mayer will head a large party from Hollywood to watch Main Man and Routine in action. Charles S. Howard will be present to root for Advocator, and Lin Howard, Crosbys partner in the Binglin Stable, will also be on deck. Routine and Olimpo loom as doubtful starters. If the track is "off" they will be certain to go postward, but the skies Friday gave no indication of rain and they may remain in the barn. Silvio Coucci will have the mount on Olimpo should the horse go postward. The 1938 northern California racing season will end with a fine program featured by an excellent contest. The San Francisco Handicap has for many years been one of the most important fixtures on the Western stakes list. Saturday will mark its sixth renewal. It has been, won by Prince Pest, Coldwater, Special Agent, Primulus and Whichcee. The distance is one and one-sixteenth miles. ADAMS HEADS TANFORAN RIDERS. "Shorty" Adams, who will have the mount on Comet II. in the San Francisco Handicap, will end up the meeting leading the riders. Going into Fridays races he had thirty winners as against nineteen for Warren Van Tassel, eighteen for Johnny Longden and sixteenth for Ralph Neves. Adams led the Tanforan jockeys last fall and again this spring. Some statistics for the first twenty-three days are at hand and they might prove interesting.
